Powerball hits $700 million, 5th largest jackpot in game’s history up for grabs on Oct. 26

The excitement surrounding the Powerball jackpot has led to ticket sales exceeding expectations and as a result, the jackpot for the drawing on Wednesday, Oct. 26 is now the 5th largest in the game’s history. On Tuesday, Powerball announced the estimated jackpot for tomorrow’s drawing is worth worth $700 million, up from the $680 million prize that was announced earlier in the day.

The jackpot jumped just hours after lottery officials announced no one won Monday night’s $637 million grand prize leading to the initial jackpot for Wednesday being estimated at $680 million. If sales continue to surpass expectations, the jackpot could rise even higher, but would need to exceed $731.1 million to become the 4th largest Powerball jackpot.

The cash option for tomorrow’s jackpot is worth $335.7.

The current jackpot is now the largest Powerball prize of the year, beating out the Jan. 5 jackpot of $632.6 million that was split by players in California and Wisconsin. There have been 35 drawings since anyone has won the Powerball jackpot, leading to the current grand prize being so valuable as the last winner came on Aug. 3.

The Powerball drawing takes place Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. and tickets can be purchased in Michigan for the drawing until 9:45 p.m. that night.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Warren last year went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund..
